Does any of this sound (painfully) familiar?
- You & your partner have become distant. Disengaged. Flat. In fact, it feels like you’re more like roommates than intimate partners.
- Your sex life is lackluster…or non-existent.
- You fight about the same thing, with no resolution. And it escalates, fast.
- You’re both stuck in a painful vortex of negative interactions, like blaming, dismissing, defending, criticizing, stonewalling?
- You feel lonely, even if your partner is right there with you.
- It’s all about the kids, the jobs, the house. What happened to “Us?”
- There are things you just can’t discuss without it blowing up.
- Infidelity has shattered your trust, and you don’t know how to move forward.
- You’re planning to get married, but you know too many people who’ve gotten divorced and you don’t want to go through that.
So How Does Couple Therapy Work?
First, we explore your relationship on all levels. What’s working? Where do you go wrong? What aspects of your relationship are being ignored?
And…as it is now, how does it feel to live in your relationship?
How do you want to feel in it?
It may be couple therapy, but it’s all about personal responsibility!
Plain and simple, finger-pointing doesn’t work. The attitude, “Fix my partner and then everything will be fine,” does not work.
What does work is accountability. Owning your part of the problem, your steps in the dance.
What are you doing that is sabotaging your relationship? What toxic thoughts and feelings are driving your behaviors?
Are you meeting your needs in a constructive –
or a destructive – way?
This is when you discover, unpack, and then interrupt those knee-jerk reactions that keep you and your partner stuck.
Once you recognize your stuck areas in the relationship, we will begin to break them down and replace them with intimacy-building tools you can implement right away.
Couples' therapy can be both practical and invigorating.
I’ll work with you to build curiosity, resilience, openness, trust, playfulness and acceptance into your relationship on all levels – emotional, verbal, physical, spiritual & sexual.
How do I help you get to this point?
I’ll give you practical tools and exercises that you can put to use, right away.
I’ll cheer you on, but challenge you when it’s needed.
I’ll help you build your tolerance for those uncomfortable conversations that make you want to run away and hide (because these are the conversations that evolve your relationship).
I’ll give you tools to keep you and your partner connected, rather than shutting down or distancing.
It’s challenging, emotional, invigorating work, and I feel blessed to be able to do this with you.
